Róóts
WOOD
(CHAINSAW-CARVED), 2023
This sculpture stands tall like a memory — elongated, meditative, and deeply rooted.
Róóts is a tribute to where I come from, both geographically and emotionally. Growing up in communist Poland, my parents’ travels to Africa were rare, almost mythical. Thanks to their scientific and academic work, they brought back not just objects, but stories, textures, rhythms, and colors that filled our home with a quiet power.
This piece draws from those early imprints. Its tall, totemic form nods to African sculpture, but also to ancestral presence — calm, alert, and unshakable. The spine-like base speaks of strength passed down, while the face remains still and timeless, gazing inward as much as outward.
„Róóts are not just where we come from.
They are what keeps us standing.“
